THE ARTIST and HER CONTRIBUTION
Originally from Copenhagen, Birgitte spent 50 years living it up in Brazil! She studied at the School of Music and Fine Arts of Paraná and even dabbled in speleology (that’s cave exploration, by the way) while being super passionate about the environment. As a nature artist, she loves capturing the beauty of Brazil’s plants, animals, and rich cultural heritage through her art, all while raising awareness about preserving our planet.
She plays around with all sorts of techniques—installations, tile work, acrylics, pen and ink, and especially ballpoint pen, which she really loves. Over the years, she’s showcased her work in about a dozen solo exhibitions, like ‘Native Bees of the Atlantic Forest’ at the Botanical Garden in Curitiba, ‘Curitiba’s Fauna’ at City Hall, and ‘Brazilian Birds’ at Avistar 2019 in São Paulo.
She’s also been part of some cool group exhibitions, tackling social and environmental themes both in Brazil and abroad. Some highlights include the launch of World Jaguar Day at Iguazu National Park and the ‘Cape Parrot’ exhibit at the East London Museum in South Africa.
Birgitte Tümmler is a proud member of the ABUN Group (Artists & Biologists Unite for Nature) and has also illustrated several books, including 'Memories of Cave Explorers of Paraná' , 'Paraná Landscape: Culture and Nature' and 'Fauna de Curitiba'. Some fun kids' books like ‘Bird Adventures' (Aventuras Passarinhas) and 'Bird Battle' (A Peleja dos Passaros) among others.
On top of that, she’s curated tons of exhibitions to support fellow artists, led art workshops all over Brazil, and given talks on art and conservation. She’s even created murals and the Memorial for Covid-19 Vi
